rebel movement deposes commander, appoints new one
August 27, 2007 (DOHA) –The Sudan Liberation Movement – United Front has announced that it deposed its commander Yusuf Hassan Yusuf and appointed Mohamed Abdallah Abdelkhaliq as his successor.
The movement said that Yusuf stands in the way of the movements’ will and disrupts the unity of the Darfur people, the Al-Jazeera Satellite Channel Television reported today.
This is followed by a two-minute video report by its correspondent Muhammad Fal. Al-Jazeera TV shows Abd-al-Khaliq speaking. A screen caption identifies him as the new commander of the Sudan Liberation Movement –
Abdelkhaliq told Al-Jazeera TV Arabic section that leadership of the movement toke these decision in a meeting held in Libya.
“Leading members of the Sudan Liberation Movement – United Front gathered in Tripoli on 21 August and issued a number of decisions, including relieving brother Yussef Hassan Yusef Abdallah of the post of commander of the movement.” he said.
