Head of southern region’s body lauds UK’s peace efforts

KHARTOUM, Jan 25, 2004 — The chairman of the Southern Sudan Coordination Council [SSCC], Dr Riak Ghai, has commended the efforts made by Britain to bring peace in Sudan. This came during his meeting with a delegation of British academics.
Dr Ghai condemned the ongoing events in Darfur. He said that the next phase requires uniting ranks, and working towards bringing peace and unity.
He added that since the [Sudan People’s] Liberation [Movement, SPLM] was formed, it sought to bring peace in Sudan, affirming the southern people’s total preference for peace and unity.
