September 4, 2007 (CAIRO) — The head of southern Sudan government (GoSS) liaison office in Cairo, Parmena Makuet, met today in his office, the Australian delegation headed by Hugh Robilliard, Third Secretary at the Australian Embassy in Cairo.

Bernabe_australian_delegation.jpgMakuet briefed the delegation about the peace implementation process in the Sudan, and the set backs on the peace road. He affirmed that SPLM is keen to implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) to the letter, peaceful and democratic transformation of Sudan.

He said that the CPA came into existence as a result of world’s efforts and steadfastness of SPLM and NCP, and that the world need not to focus on Darfur only but has to nurture the child that was born on January 9, 2005.

He also briefed the Australian delegation about the efforts of SPLM in bringing peace into Darfur, explaining that GoSS has formed a special Darfur committee, which is working hard to bring the various Darfurian forces under the one umbrella, so that they can enter into deliberations with the government of national unity as one entity and with clear objectives.

The delegation was also briefed about the delay of census, Abyei protocol, boundary demarcation and the up coming general elections, as there will not be elections without the census and clear border perimeters which are the chief factors in determining the election constituencies.
