Darfur rebel figure arrives in Chad

September 15, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Darfur rebel figure flew to the Chadian capital, N’djamena from Nairobi, where he was transported by a special plane yesterday, after the UN declined to admit him it its hospital in Kenya.

Suleiman Jamous, the humanitarian coordinator of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) told Sudan Tribune from Chad that he arrived yesterday to N’djamena because the UN said that he didn’t meet the required conditions for admission it is hospital there.

“Once arrived to Nairobi they paid me a ticket on Ethiopia Airlines to Chad and gave me 500 US dollars” Jamous told Sudan Tribune.

Jamous said he will contact friends to find a western country that is ready to receive him for testing to diagnose his disease.

“Not a great record by the UN,” said a Western observer commenting the Un rejection to admit him at its hospital. He further regretted that “The international community wants his help with the peace process, but no-one so far has offered to help him with his health.”

UN doctors since eight months said that Jamous needs a stomach biopsy which could not be performed in the U.N. hospital in Kadugli, southern Kordofan.

He said he is glad to be in Chad where some members of his relatives reside.

Sudanese president had ordered to facilitate his departure from UN military hospital in southern Kordofan dafter a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon last week.
