Salva Kiir denies differences over Sudan peace implementation

September 19, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese first vice president and president of southern Sudan government, Salva Kiir Mayadrit denied existence of difference with the peace partner, the National Congress Party (NCP).

Bashir_Salva_Kiir_Juba-2.jpgIn a Ramadan banquet attended by the president Omer Hassan al-Bashir given in his new residence in Khartoum, Slva Kiir pointed out that participation of the president in the Ramadan breakfast banquet represents one of the values of the Sudanese society, which is characterized by brotherhood and love.

He further affirmed the commitment of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the NCP to implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and to realize security and stability in the country, the official SUNA reported.

He further addressed a call to the leader of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement, Abdelwahid al-Nur to join the ongoing peace process to end the four year conflict in Darfur region.

Salva Kiir reaffirmed the keenness of the Government of Southern Sudan to maintain security and stability to attract investors to southern Sudan, referring to the role of the private sector in this regard.

During a visit to the Italian capital last week, president al-Bashir said that the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) had no intention of going to war again in South Sudan, despite problems surrounding the implementation of the 2005 CPA.

However, in a speech before the southern Sudan parliament, Salva Kiir had accused his partner in the national coalition government of hampering the implementation of the peace deal, and warned that Sudan will reverse again to war.

The implementation of the CPA remains source of tension between the two partners with regards to the demarcation of the north-south border, the status of Abyei area and the deployment of the SAF from the south.

Can I say the vice president in present of his boss fear to give the detail of their difference on the obtacle that prevent the implementatio of CPA? Mr.President, you need to be serious and speak your mind. Whatever you say to the South should also be told to the North so that they may know how southerners feel about the failing of CPA implementation.
