Sudanese President stresses on his government’s commitment to peace?
KHARTOUM, Jan 27, 2004 (KUNA) — Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir stressed Tuesday on his government’s commitment to peace as a strategic and essential choice for the Sudanese nation.
Sudanese News Agency said that al-Bashir, during his meeting with his Vice Ali Osman Taha, praised the efforts of Taha in the negotiations with the Public Movement that ended Monday, calling for increasing the efforts to reach an everlasting, final, and peaceful solution.
Taha, regarding the conflict of the three areas, said that the Sudanese government and the PM reached a solution regarding the South Kardafan and Blue Nile areas, the only area left is Abeye City.
He expressed his hopes that the next round of negotiations, starting on February 17, will result in a final solution.
The third round of negotiations ended Monday without reaching a solution for the three areas conflict, because of the oil-rich Abeye City located between the north and the south. The 58-day negotiations solved the wealth conflict, one of three files left to reach the final solution which ends the longest civil war in Africa.
