Top US army chief visits Sudan, discusses military cooperation, terrorism

KHARTOUM, Jan 28, 2004 — The deputy chief of general staff of operations, Staff Lt-Gen Ja’far Hasan Muhammad, has held talks with the commander of the emergency intervention forces in the Horn of Africa, Brig-Gen Mastin Robeson, on restoration of military cooperation between Sudan and USA, as well as cooperation with the US military command to curb terrorism in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting which was held yesterday at the general command touched on the training of the Sudanese army, the exchange of information, and ways of military cooperation in the peace process.

The commander of the emergency intervention forces, based in Djibouti, Gen Ribson, is the highest ranking US official who has visited Sudan since the Sudanese-US ties deteriorated in 1990.
