Libyan conference, will it resolve Darfur crisis

September 29, 2007 (CAIRO) — Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies organized on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 a conference about the plight of human torment, its fate and as whether the forthcoming Tripoli conference will be a breakthrough for Darfur calamity under the management of Hani Rasalan President of the center which was attended by the various groups of Darfurian forces.

opening_session.jpgThe conference started by the speech from Mr. Hani Rasalan who underlined the history of Darfur conflicts and the suffering of its people which started according to him more than six years till it reached its current phase of devastation, killing, rape and prevalence of disease. He questioned about the capacity of Tripoli conference which will commence on October 27, 2007 in solving the crisis of Darfur which Egypt is one of the participants, and is currently preparing to send to the Sudan’s troubled region 2,100 troops as its contribution in the mixed UN-AU peacekeeping force.

The writer and political analyst Dr. Nabil Abdo El Fataha said the Darfur crisis has worsened during the past couple of years, and there is need for the unity of all Darfurian forces with one request, and pointed out that the real predicament is to depend on the outside factors to resolve Darfur problems and said that the foreign role which is always driving to its own interest and its directives to Darfurian forces has got a negative impact on the sincerity of durable solution.

On the other hand Mohamed Abdalla Osman from SLM said there is great need for all the Darfurian forces to unite their fronts and to have one voice for the welfare of the country and its people. He went on elaborating that the Libyan conference is trying to bring all the world leaders to resolve the crisis and to please the people of Darfur and to put an end to the various Darfur regional and international agendas. And stressed on the importance of all political forces in Sudan to adapt and form unified strategy to end the conflicts in south, east and west to offer an ideal living conditions to about 30 million Sudanese people.

The Secretary General for Popular Democratic Front, Osama Mohamed Hassan pointed out that the struggle for power and prevalence of corruption are the major reasons for the increased problems in Sudan, saying that there are more than 125 ministers which could not implement the justice and development and the people are suffering from marginalization and inequality, and the solution is that all the forces has to have a clear political vision and ideal thinking and try to establish the government of people to hear the crisis and requests of the marginalized people.

The conference was concluded by the speech from Mohamed Ismail Mohamed, who underlined that the Sudanese government has failed in the management of the resources to the benefit of the Sudanese people and the prove is the continued wars and the solution is the self-determination which is the only solution to Darfuri people and solving the main points of the conflict which is the conflict between cattle owners and cultivators and abandoning of the development in Darfur, and the conflict about the land ownership, tribal radicalism and conflict about power and forceful bandits which is the base of the conflict in Darfur. He said the solution is the unification of Darfurian forces as it happened in south Sudan and after Naivasha agreement and speed the wheel of development which is the base of peace, and to focus on the solvent of human problems but not military and establishment of secular country, separating religion from government and maintain of security, stability and set forth Darfur on the development map.
