Chairman Salva Kiir appoints SPLM’s deputy chairpersons

October 4, 2007 (JUBA) — The First Vice President of the Republic, President of the Government of Southern Sudan and Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Salva Kiir Mayardit, issued a Party’s decree on Wednesday, October 3, 2007, appointing the following three Deputy Chairpersons for the Party:

– 1. Dr. Riek Machar Teny – First Deputy Chairperson
– 2. Mr. James Wani Igga – Second Deputy Chairperson
– 3. Mr. Malik Agaar – Third Deputy Chairperson

The SPLM Chairperson stated that he issued the Decree in accordance with the recommendations of the SPLM two Conferences held in Yei last year and in Juba this year.

Riek Machar is currently the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, James Wani is the Speaker of the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly while Malik Agaar is the Governor of Southern Blue Nile State.
