Panel disscussion on Darfur kicks off in Ethiopia

October 11, 2007 (ADDIS ABABA) — A panel discussion under a theme “Solidarity with Darfur” co-hosted by Afroflag Youth Vision (AYV) and Oxfam held here on Wednesday Ethiopian state run television reportes.

Research papers on the source, cause and the current situation of the Darfur crises were presented by experts of African Humanitarian Action and Security Study Institute.

Various research papers stating that what should be the role of the international community and Africans themselves to ensure peace in Darfur region were also presented in the course of the panel discussion.

Chairman of AYV, Eyob Balcha said members of resident diplomats be introduced with the activities of AU and ECA.

The objective of the panel discussion was to express association’s keenness to see peace and stability in Darfur and request international organizations to interfere in the issue.

The association has been undertaking preparation to launch monthly discussion forums that would raise public awareness by participating civic societies, international institutions, scholars and other stakeholders.
