Iran delivers 180 railway wagons to Sudan

TEHRAN, Feb 01, 2004 (IRIB/ST) — Iran has delivered 180 railway carriages to Sudan worth dlrs 10 million, said Iran’s Minister of Road and Transportation Ahmad Khorram.

Iran would provide another 320 railway wagons to Sudan, said Khorram who was speaking in a meeting with the Sudanese Aviation Minister Jozef Malwal Dank on Saturday.

The cooperation between the two countries in the maritime, air and railway fields and noted that Iran stands ready to set up flight between the two countries as the two nations have inked an agreement to boost the air transportation cooperation, Sudan’s minister stressed.

He added Iran would repair five locomotive of Sudan and would grant training for Sudanese experts on the railway network.

Khorram said Iran is ready to take part in the railway tenders of Sudan as it is in a position to draw up plans of railway projects in the African country.

Sudan’s Dank said Iran’s move to inaugurate the gigantic Imam Khomeini project was praiseworthy citing it as a great breakthrough of Iran.

Dank said his country would welcome any initiative to boost ties within the framework the already-inked agreement.

He called on Iran to take part in the economic projects and activities in Sudan adding that his country would support foreign investment in Sudan. He voiced his country’s preparedness to boost the aviation operation with Iran.

The seventh Iran-Sudan joint economic, cultural and technical cooperation commission meeting was held in Tehran at the end of July last year.

The two countries cooperate also in defensive and security fields. Sudanese Interior Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Defence Industries Abd al-Rahim Muhammad Husayn paid a visit to Iran last October and conferred with Iran’s Minister of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani on defence and security cooperation.
