Sudan ruling party accuses SPLA of massing troops along North-South boundaries
October 21, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan’s ruling party on Sunday accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the former rebel group in south Sudan, of building up military forces along boundaries between south and north Sudan.
“The SPLM is mobilizing its forces and gathering them on the north-south boundaries,” Sudanese Vice President Ali Osman Mohammed Taha told a press conference.
He urged the SPLM to restrain itself, abstain from sending signals of war and commit itself to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) it signed with the central government in 2005.
Taha reiterated the commitment of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to the 2005 CPA, saying, “we are concerned with implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and finding solutions for all the pending issues.”
“There are no justifications for the SPLM’s decision,” Taha said, adding that all the issues were under discussion.
“The NCP is not ready to go back to the war because we know the meaning of the war and destruction,” Taha asserted.
The SPLM decided on Oct. 11 to withhold the participation of the movement’s ministers in the central government and freeze the partnership between the SPLM and the NCP led by Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir until pending issues between them were settled.
Last Thursday, al-Bashir and SPLM leader Salva Kiir Mayardit held their first meeting in Khartoum without tangible results but agreed to hold more talks on the current political crisis.
On Saturday, the pro-NCP Sudanese Media Center reported that the SPLM troops had occupied Al-Kuwaik town located south of the White Nile.
It quoted an unidentified military source as saying that SPLM forces supported by tanks and vehicles were on the offensive to take over some more cities in the region.
The source said that the SPLM was massing troops on the eastern bank of the White Nile River in preparation for an attack on Al- Tboon area bordering the states of Sinnar, White Nile and Upper Nile.
Ali Tamim Fartag, Sudanese presidential advisor and deputy chairman of NCP’s southern Sudan sector, told the official SUNA news agency that SPLM members had seized the NCP premises in Northern and Western Bahr al-Ghazal States.

Sudan ruling party accuses SPLA of massing troops along North-South boundaries
Ali Osman Mohamed Taha arguing SPLA to restrain and abstain from sending signals of war……… that is great and what do NCP expect if they don’t want to implement the peace agreement the CPA applause? NCP should bear in mind that the equations are now variable. The southerners are not like those of 1972, totally difference and tik for tak and even worse; if NCP did something SPLA will response twice or thrice that is great. If Taha and his party do not want war it is simple just withdraw troops from south, solve abyei issue, and be transparent in oil revenues is that difficult at all?

“The NCP is not ready to go back to the war because we know the meaning of the war and destruction,” this is a quote from Sudan’s vice president Ali Osman M Taha. How could we believe him and the NCP that we all know? How many agreements have they reneged on? This is a vague statement even the naive person can simply understand what that means, because they are not ready, the South Sudan Army have to wait until they SAF is ready to take on the military offensive against the south sudanese people. These are not southerners of the 19th and 20th century respectively, these are southerners of the 21th century that can not and will not repeat past mistakes in this present time. If you don’t need war than the CPA should be implemented in principle and not being selective in the implementation process. The fate of Abyei, the South – North border demarcation, the equitable share of oil revenue and political transformation that allow all those held in secret detention centres be put on trial in the Court of law. I praise and appreciate the SPLM in general and Salva Kiir in particular, the president of South Sudan for taking this significant stand in this critical time to protect the people of South Sudan in their entirety and get the CPA on the right track. This is time for flexing muscles to see who will be capable to fight a good fight. God bless South Sudan.

Please Mr.Taha you are pouring some cold water on our fragile peace deal signed in 2005, ending the longest civil war between South rebels SPLA and Sudan Government.
Frankly speaking without fear, you want to compaign for presidency where Omar Al Beshir is holding, that is why you always pay false accusation on SPLM. As a politician you know how to hunt for a position but that is not the right path people are tied.
Let us implement CPA rather than paying for accussations on each other.
Thank you
