Ethiopia’s PM meets Sudanese government delegation

October 22, 2007 (ADDIS ABABA) – Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi held talks today with a delegation led by Nafi Ali Nafi Assistants to the President of the Sudan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir.

The discussions were focused on the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the Sudanese government and former rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in 2005 to end a 21-year conflict.

The visit tended to brief the Ethiopian leadership of the crisis surfaced between the National Congress and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SUNA reported.

A SPLM delegation visited the Ethiopian capital on October 20 to demand Ethiopian role to settle conflict between the partners of the Comprehensive Peace Talks, the official ENA reported.

Nafi briefed the Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles about the obstacles that challenged the implementation of the peace process, according to an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended the discussions.

The discussion was also focused on ways through which the agreements signed by the two sides could fully been implemented.

Nafi after the discussions told journalists that he had briefed Prime Minister Meles on measures taken to incorporate representatives of the South Sudan in the cabinet.

He also expressed hope that the existing problems in the Sudan would shortly be resolved.

Nafi sad the discussions held with Prime Minister Meles were fruitful.
