Ugandan President tells South Sudan to avoid war
October 27, 2007 (KAMPALA) — Speaking for the first time after the fall out between the Sudanese Peoples’ Liberation Movement and the government in Sudan, Ugandan President Museveni has warned the former rebels against rushing into war with Khartoum.
“The [Sudanese] Minister of Foreign Affairs [Deng Alor] and the Southern Sudan Minister of Agriculture, Dr Samson Kwaje came to see the President on the reasons the SPLM withdrew from the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) (between them and Khartoum),” Mr Oryem said on Thursday.
“They told the President the conditions they want fulfilled before going back to the CPA”.
In a serious setback to the CPA, the SPLM recently announced suspension of their participation in the national unity government because of “failure” by Khartoum to implement the peace deal, which includes a borderline, share of oil resources, and the removal of government troops from South Sudan territory.
The Sudanese First Vice President, and President of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS), Silva Kiir, warned recently that there could be a return to war if the CPA is not implemented. “The President advised them to be tolerant,” Mr Oryem, who attended the meeting, said.
He, however, said reports of harassment of Ugandans in South Sudan could not be discussed as the government awaits a report from the fact-finding ministerial team that recently visited Juba.
Mr Oryem said the team said GoSS was still committed to spearheading the peace talks between the government and the LRA in Juba, South Sudan despite their current differences with Khartoum.
Also present were; Security Minister, Amama Mbabazi, that of Internal Affairs, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and Defence Minister Dr Kiyonga.

Southerners hopefully expecting the Government of Uganda to tell them that very word, ”to avoid war in south sudan” bravo. The war was so expensive we will not accept it to happen again.
But Sudan government always decides to turn back the largest country in Africa Sudan to war by sidelining South Sudan government and his failure to implement CPA which International Community, UN and neighbouring countries like Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia etc. never know.
Same happen in Western region of Darfur war which US termed as genocide. I read news about it today telling that the two rebel groups are refusing to join Libya talks because they think that will increase the incurable disease as paid for Abuja.
Otherwise, no hope for peaceful solution to the conflict in Darfur.
