Sudan president discusses peace, Darfur conflict with Libyan leader

KHARTOUM, Feb 04, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashir has talked on the telephone with the Libyan leader, Mu’ammar al-Qadhafi, on the occasion of the Eid al- Adha.

During the conversation, the Sudanese president briefed his Libyan counterpart on the situation in Sudan and in Darfur in particular.

He also discussed the latest developments of the peace talks with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Kenya, as well as the bilateral ties in various fields.

Sudanese intelligence services accused so-called “Libyan channels” of sponsoring western Sudan rebels. A high rank Sudanese delegation included the assistant to the president, Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi, and the minister of internal affairs Abd Al-Rahim Mohamed Hussein made a trip to Tripoli last month to discuss this issue with Libyan authorities.
