Sudan FVP extends Washington visit to meet US President
November 11, 2007 (KHARTOULM) – Sudanese First Vice-President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has extended his stay in the USA in order to meet the US president George Bush.
According to the Arabic Language Alray Alam, Salva Kiir has extended his stay that was scheduled to end today, to meet US President Geotge Bush at the White House. The daily said the meeting would be held either on Sunday or Monday.
The meeting is expected to focus on the pending issues in the implementation of the Comprehensive peace agreement signed between the National Congress Party government and the former rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in January 2005.
The Washington Post said last week that US administration proposed revisions to the terms of the peace deal that ended two decades of civil war between the north and the south. The Post said proposals were on the agenda of the meeting between Kiir and Rice on November 8.
Kiir seems opposed to the plan suggesting that this will open up the accord to renegotiation.
Salva Kiir arrived to Washington on Monday, November 5, 2007 for an official visit to the United States of America on the invitation of the US administration. He is accompanied by Monsur Khalid, Rev. Haruun Run Lual, Anne Itto, Presidential Advisors, Luka Biong Deng, Minister of Presidential Affairs GOSS and Cirino Hiteng Ofuho, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Cooperation GOSS.
