Darfur rebels deny allegations of Israeli support

November 15, 2007 (LONDON) – Sudan’s Bashir allegations that Darfur rebel groups are supported by Israel expresses the hysteria and the dissatisfaction of the Sudanese regime after its failure to tame Darfur movement through plots and violence, JEM rebel spokesperson said.

Sudanese president Omer al-Bashir on Tuesday addressing a Muslim clergy conference in Khartoum accused Israel of fabricating and supporting the Darfur rebellion. Al-Bashir speech was aired by the Doha based Al-Jazeera TV.

Ahmed Hussein Adam, said Bashir meant to draw the sympathy of the Muslim and Arabic audiences; adding “but they have to know that it is al-Bashir who is the cause of this human tragedy in Darfur. “It is Bashir and his National Congress Party who try to divide Sudanese to Arabs and Africans.”

He pointed out that the Sudanese president and his top officials in the government see the plot every where, and they hold Israelis responsible from every thing. “But this regime is the cause of all these troubles.” Ahmed denounced “Khartoum racist policy”, accusing it of committing “genocide” in Darfur.

He wondered why Sudanese president says they are armed by Israel while he knows very well that his army is the main arms supplier of the rebellion. He said “our arms are made in China.” Ahmed added that China provided the necessary weapons to Khartoum and its militias to commit genocide in Darfur.

The rebel spokesperson said they welcome humanitarian assistance from everywhere without any consideration for the religion or the race.

He further said that interest of the Jewish and their mobilisation for Darfur cause come from the fact that they were subjected to the same violence and oppression during the Second World War.
