By James Gatdet Dak
December 3, 2007 (JUBA) — Southern Sudan has conducted its first ever Miss Malaika competition in the capital, Juba on Saturday, December 1, 2007, after two competitions of this kind were previously conducted outside the country with minimal advertisement and participation from the Southern Sudan various states.
The competition in Juba drew competitors from all beautiful girls in Southern Sudan’s ten states to Juba after being selected in their respective states. The competition was won by Deborah Meer William from Fangak County in Jonglei state after beating the other nine girls in the top ten.
The announcement on Saturday evening in Juba that Deborah Meer William won the Miss Malaika, which is sometimes called Miss New Sudan, was received with great jubilation as thousands of youth members were eagerly waiting for the announcement of the result.
Dr. Julia Duany, member of the judges who chose the winner said the girl caught the attention of the judges in her very unique style and smartness.
Dr. Duany explained that Miss Deborah Meer was beautiful, dressed in the Nuer traditional dresses and very smart in mind and could speak multi-languages which include English, Arabic, Nuer and Kiswahili.
The celebration was marked with colorful traditional dances by various communities in Southern Sudan. Speaking to the press after winning the Miss Malaika beauty contest, Deborah William, said “the contest is not all about beauty, but is a means to address other social issues in the communities of Southern Sudan.” She said she will vigorously fight for child rights, gender issues and elimination of the killer disease, the HIV&AIDS in Southern Sudan.
The new Miss Malaika stands a high chance of competing regionally and internationally and to solicit support for the programmes she wants to undertake.

I did not know that South Sudan is advancing like this. Thanks for the competition, I think that will encourage people to get confidence in their country. The good aspect is that will encourage our girls to stop becoming like European. There is an African beautiful; and thank for organizers for proving that fact.

waaaaa!
Brabo Miss Malaika.
I knew it from the very beginning that you are going to makes it. Now that you have done it very succesfully, what message do you give your sisters who are in those remote corners of this beautifull country of ours?.Thinks about it while you are enjoying the beauty of the black people.
I wish to tell the others sisters of ours to stop bleaching since they have known how beautifull a black woman is.
Keeps that Black skin of yours under serious display so that you sisters may know how black look like in the public.
