Darfur governor hails Al-Bashir’s amnesty to western rebellion

KHARTOUM, Feb 10, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The governor of North Darfur welcomed yesterday the statement issued by President Omar al-Beshir concerning the recent events in the state of Darfur, expressing his government’s full support and appreciation of the presidential statement.

The statement opens wide opportunities for peace, unity and the consolidation of the social fabric, adding that the statement also allows for comprehensive development in Darfur State, the further indicated.

He also said that the statement provides a suitable atmosphere for the process of humanitarian aid and that it enables the rebels and the outlaws to return with dignity to their homeland.

The governor further said the statement opens opportunities for peace, unity and the consolidation of the social fabric, adding that the statement also allows for comprehensive development in Darfur states.

He indicated a tripartite memorandum of understanding comprising the Sudanese Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies together with the international associations was signed today.
