South Sudan delegation in Egypt to discuss students’ problems

December 11, 2007 (CAIRO) – A delegation from the Southern Sudan government is arrived in Cairo discuss with the concerned authorities education Cooperation and problems related to the situation of south Sudanese students in the Egyptian universities.

delegation_education.jpgMP Nartisio Loluke Manir, Chairperson of Education, Research, Science and Technology Committee in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) and Samuel Kanyanga, Deputy Director for Ministry of Education, Science and Technology/High Education arrived to Cairo on Saturday, December 8, 2007 to discuss with the officials at the Ministry for High Education problems facing the southern Sudan students who were accepted in scholarships in Egypt.

Nartisio told Sudan Tribune that the purpose of his visit is to get acquainted with the students’ problems and particularly those who studied in East Africa and do not know Arabic language, and the problem of evaluating their grades into the Egyptian standard as well as to fill the remaining 96 scholarship vacant posts for this academic year 2007/2008 and to see as how these problems could be sorted out.

A high ranking ministerial delegation headed Mary Kiden, Minister of Gender, Social Welfare and Religious Affairs, is expected to visit Egypt in the coming weeks to discuss issues pertaining to the voluntary repatriation, lost-boys and out-laws and the problems confronting students accepted into the various Egyptian universities and institutions.

The delegation is expected to meet with the highest Egyptian authorities as well as Minister of Interior in which the discussions will focus on the predicament of the so-called Sudanese gangs, its root causes and the voluntary repatriation.

Upon their arrival Nartisio had a meeting with staff of GoSS Mission in Cairo in which he was briefed about the various problems facing the students, and some students whom have been rejected by the Wafideen department because they do not meet the Egyptian enrolment standard.

On the other hand today December 11, 2007 Honarable Nartisio and Principal Liaison Officer, Parmena Makuet attended the graduation party for Bank of Southern Sudan trainees at the Institute of Arab Bank which is being organized by the National Bank of Egypt, and this was the third batch to be graduated this year and the fourth group is expected to arrive soon or early next year.

Also Mr. Nartisio had various meetings with Women Union in Cairo and will have a meeting with the students’ committee to hear from them their grievances and the means of resolving it.
