Yambio investigation panel to report its findings within 2 weeks

December 18, 2007 (JUBA) — The committee of investigation for Yambio incident was sworn in yesterday before the president of southern Sudan government, Salva Kiir Mayadrit and was requested to report its findings within two weeks.

On Sunday November 4, three senior police officers and 7 other police soldiers were killed by Sudan People’s Liberation Army soldiers belonging to a Joint Integrated United based in Yambio, Western Equatoria, following their refusal to release a SPLA soldier suspected on the killing of another soldier.

The committee comprises of the following: 1. Hon. filberto Mayuot Mareng of Legal Affairs, Chairman, 2. Brig. SPLA, Makuac Teny Yoh Member, 3. Brig. Police, Edward Dimitri Member, 4. Col. Police, Sidiq Ismail Sidiq Member, 5. Lt. Col. SPLA, Kuol Alor Kuol, Secretary.

The investigation committee is instructed to carry out its work without fear or fevor, and establish the facts that led to the shooting of the three Police Senior Officers in Yambio last month.

The Committee is to report their findings to the President Government of Southern Sudan, within two weeks from Monday 17 November.

Salva Kiir Mayardit had ordered — from Washington where he was in a visit — to arrest the culprits Yambio killing and to transfer immediately the SPLA component of the JIU out of Yambio. He further directed to replace the JIU by two companies from the SPLA Mother Units.
