South Sudan’s Kiir urges hold-out groups to cease hostilities
January 21, 2022 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has re-affirmed his commitments to fast-track the ongoing implementation of peace agreement, urging the hold-out groups to cease hostilities.
The South Sudanese leader made the remarks during a meeting with Vice Presidents James Wani Igga, Taban Deng Gai, Rebecca Nyandeng and the national assembly speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the Executive Director in the office of the president, James Deng Wal said meeting also deliberated on the general political, economic and security situation of the country.
“The meeting deliberated on the status of the ongoing implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the mechanisms to expedite its implementation,” he explained.
Also discussed, Deng said, was the general security situation in the country, with specific attention to Western Equatoria and Central Equatoria states.
Meanwhile, the leaders extended their condolences to the president and his family upon the recent death of his brother, Akook Mayardit Thiik.
