The SLM/A rejects the participation of Egyptian, Chinese, and Pakistani troops in Darfur Hybrid Forces
December 28, 2007 — The Khartoum National Congress Party (NCP) used, to its advantage, the divisions and fragmentations of the revolutionary Darfur movements and continued on with its genocidal policy, bombing of innocent civilians, perpetration of gross human rights violations, as well as erecting obstacles to finding a political solution to the Darfur conflict. The divisions of the Darfur movements also insulted, to a greater degree, the cause of our people and the attainment of the just demands of the Sudanese people in general and Darfur people in particular.
In its quest to finding a peaceful resolution to the Darfur conflict, the SPLM/A initiated Juba Conference to reunite not only Darfur movements, but to unite the forces of all marginalized areas of Sudan. As the result of Juba Conference, a united SLM/A under the leadership of Ahmed Abdelshafi Toba has been created. The SLM/A would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the commitment it has previously made with regard to attaining the desires and aspirations of the marginalized people in Sudan, as well as to accomplish the just demands of the refugees, IDPs and other affected persons from Darfur. In light of the above, the SLM/A declares the following: The SLM/A;
– calls upon other armed movements to eliminate all forms of disagreements and unite themselves against our common enemy (the NCP);
– welcomes the idea of building relationships with regional and international players, and condemns any notion that could downgrade the cause of our people and their just demands;
– acknowledges the efforts excreted by the African Union (AU), despite of its (AU) limited resources;
– calls upon the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to implement resolution 1769 and a rapid deployment of the hybrid forces to Darfur;
– rejects (in the strongest terms) the participation of any Egyptian forces as part of the AU-UN Hybrid Forces. Egypt and the NCP have signed a security protocol in the past, as Egyptian forces will be used as proxies to the NCP in Darfur. The SLM/A also rejects the participation of Chinese forces in the hybrid forces, as China blocked all attempts to adopt a series of strong UNSC resolutions which would have punished the NCP;
– in addition, China supplied and provided weapons to the NCP which have been used extensively to commit one of the heinous crimes of our generation. The SLM/A also rejects the participation of any Pakistani forces as part of Darfur Hybrid Forces and from any other country that harbors terrorism;
– calls upon the UNSC to implement all previously adopted resolutions concerning the Darfur conflict;
– will cooperate with the UNSC in implementing all UNSC resolutions regarding Darfur, especially those resolutions concerned with the arrest and prosecution of Ali Ahmed Haroun, and Ahmed Koshaib who were known to have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur;
– awaits for a reply from the AU-UN Mediation Team with regard to the letter sent to the latter on October 27, 2007;
– condemns the continuous attacks on and kidnapping of vehicles that belong to relief organizations in Darfur by Government of Sudan forces and the Janjaweed militia;
– calls upon all Sudanese people and the people of Darfur to adopt the initiative of the SLM/A issued on December 12, 2007 which called for cessation of hostilities and peaceful coexistence in Darfur;
– rejects the NCP’s policy to dividing the three Darfur states into more districts and localities and widening the gap between the diverse components of the region;
– calls upon the sons and daughters of the Meisariya tribe in Kordofan to join hands and abort the NCP’s attempts to using their tribe as a human shield and injecting armed conflicts between the members of the Meisariya tribe.
It is no doubt that the Darfur armed revolution has adopted (as one of its pillars) the institutionalization of equal citizenship rights and justice for all Sudanese irrespective of their ethnic, racial, religious and cultural background. In that context, the SLM/A calls upon all Sudanese people to join the SLM/A and work together to prevent the disintegration of our beloved country.
