Sudan lodges complaint to Security Council against Chad
December 29, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — Sudan has lodged a complaint to the UN Security Council over incursion of Chadian troops and military plane inside its territory .
Sudan has filled an urgent complaint to the Security Council against Chad, through its Representative to the United Nations in New York, Abdelmahmood Abdelhalim, exposing the Chadian stances and its repeated aggressions on the country’s borders, the latest of which was the air and troops’ attack Friday on Sudan Western borders, the official SUNA reported on Saturday.
Sudan asked in this complaint that the Security Council assume its responsibilities and ask Chad to stop its attacks against Sudanese territory.
Further, the Sudanese government reiterated that it reserves the right to respond to this aggression in conformity with the UN Charter.
N’djemaina didn’t issue any comment with regard to Khartoum accusations. However the Chadian authorities accused Sudan of arming rebel groups saying it intend to block the EU mission.
Europe plans to send around 4,000 “Eufor” troops in the coming weeks to protect aid operations in eastern Chad and adjoining northeastern Central African Republic, complementing a much larger U.N.-African Union force planned for Sudan’s Darfur.
Yesterday Sudanese foreign minister accused Chad of hosting a meeting held by the rebel Justice and Equality Movement in the mountainous area of Bhai, inside Chadian territory. Further it said that the recent military escalation by the rebel group is due to the Chadian support.
The Chadian rebels intensified they attack in the eastern part of the country near Sudanese border against president Deby forces despite a truce they signed in Sirte, Libya, on October 25.
