NCP delegation says arrested and tortured in South Sudan

December 30, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — A delegation for the National Congress Party (NCP) accused the southern Sudan army of arresting and torturing them while they were in visit to Renk in Upper Nile State.

During the Christmas festivities, the NCP sent delegations to different towns in southern Sudan to participate in rreligious festivals and ceremonies. According to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the NCP shares power with the ruling party in the southern Sudan, SPLM.

Member of Parliament and head of NCP delegation to Renk, Fadwa Deng, said today that all members of the delegation were arrested by the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and tortured over accusation that they came to the area without the authorization of the SPLA.

Deng said she wasn’t tortured but received death threats from SPLA officers interrogating here.

According to a press statement releasedon Sunday in Khartoum, the arrest occurred in the locality of Molbok, 73 km south of Renk, while they were in the house of the mayor of Molbok, Edor Aleu on December 22, 207.

MP Fadwa said they were accused of betraying the southern Sudan cause by their adhesion to the NCP.

However, the delegation was released two days later and transported to Renk were they met the SPLM officials who offered their apology for the incident.

NCP delegation says arrested and tortured in South Sudan
    Dear All,

Is it true that the politicians were officially sent to Renk for the purpose of participating in the religious ceremonies. I absolutely doubt that the fact behind their visit has been politically concealed.

First of all, let’s define the ground on which the so called NCP stands. Is it standing on religious or political ground. In fact, the National Congress Party (NCP) is not a religious organisation neither but I urge it is a political party base on creating the political ideas that may earn its supporters a future lead in the governance of the nation.

Therefore, it is absolutely silly to officially send politicians as described MPs for the purpose of worshipping. Really laughable, roughly constructed deceiption. By the way, does such religious visit politically help NCP. But in which way. Let’s analyse clearly. Worship is individual concern. Where to celebrate the christmas festivals is the agendum on one ‘s own table. Does it involve anybody? Well to be more clear, Mr. Bashir may decide to spend his christmas holiday in his home town. Is this parliamentary concern? Not at all. Thus, I seriously condemn the reason matched against the visit of NCP officials.

To highlight the fact bahind, though I am not told, they were sent to carry out a campaign over 2011 south referundum and actually much of the national funds is being wasted by NCP through this illegal campaign. However, let’s be careful southerners. Sincerely, you feel proud when you give rather than being given and whatever you are given is naturally yours. The only thing that keeps you behind is simply that you believe in somebody (foreigner) as the master of your wealth denying your own self. Sudan belongs to indegenious Africans not Middle East traders.

Of course, to have an access to southern towns, permission should be asked from the Government Of Southern Sudan (GOSS), otherwise, if not they have to face the music as they did. But I don’t agree that they were arrested or tortured, What idea proves it? nil, no proof. If they were arrested, the Judiciary of Southern Sudan (JOSS)would deal against them for unauthorised visit.

We southerners should be united and permanently have in minds the idea of SEPARATION. Don’t pull the snake to yourself but push it away if you are wise enough.

    Happy New Year, All.

The whole incident was like,a 9 months baby crawling towards a burning fire to touch it with no basic sense of reasoning. Can those christmas NCP delegation to Molbok/Renk,convey a message of political victory or religious co-existence?.NCP have to understand from that lesson, all southerners are already very wise than the three wise men from the east who visited the presence of child Jesus. The delegations could have only compraised muslim Immams or mosque leaders from the northern sect instead of putting those dirsty southern sudanese muslims into temptations.Renk was considered a breed and encroachment coridor for Arabization and Islamization of the South.
