February 3, 2022 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s Health minister Elizabeth Achuei has revoked the suspension of the ministry’s undersecretary Victoria Anib.

The Health minister, in an order dated January 13, 2022, stated that ministry’s undersecretary had been reinstated to her position with “immediate” effect.

Anib was on October last year suspended by the minister for ‘insubordination’.

A presidential source told Sudan Tribune on Thursday that President Salva Kiir and First Vice President Riek Machar requested the minister to reconcile with her junior.

The two officials, the source noted, were asked to cooperate and work together in harmony because neither party intended to lose the candidate it nominated.

Achuei is a nominee of the armed opposition (SPLM-IO) led by Machar while Anib was nominated by the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) headed by Kiir.

While appearing at an event to mark World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day in Juba last weekend, Achuei apologized before the audience for any wrongdoing.

“I heard a good comment earlier about me and the undersecretary. Yes, the mistake is done, but the big thing is when you don’t learn from the mistake. I am assuring all of you and our partners for the disappointment done during our struggle for something that we don’t know where it was coming from,” she said.

The minister publicly requested for forgiveness from the undersecretary.

For her part, the undersecretary thanked Achuei for demonstrating leadership.
