South Sudan police unveil penalties for traffic offences

February 10, 2022 (JUBA) – Motorists who violate set traffic regulations could pay penalties ranging from SSP 10,000-50,000, police in South Sudan said.

The new directives are contained in a circular signed by the Assistant Inspector General for the National Traffic Police, Lt. General Akok Noon Akok.

The order, it noted, seeks to reinforce the country’s existing traffic regulations.

“The administration of National Traffic Police has issued an order imposing fines for the contravention of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws due to gross violations and misconduct by motorists,” partly reads the circular.

Police also vowed to penalize intoxicated drivers, those without licenses, those in possession of expired licenses, logbooks or those lacking logbooks.

Also liable to be fined are reckless drivers, including those driving on the wrong lane, those disobeying instructions and those who use inappropriate words.
