February 11, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, aka “Hemetti”, called on Sudanese to join hands to build their country and to remove all those who obstruct national unity.

On Friday, Hemetti launched two charitable organizations “The Hands of Goodness, Contribute to Sustainable Development. Also, he donated one million USD to fund their activities especially the rehabilitation of university housing and improving the conditions of students.

In a speech delivered on this occasion held in Suba suburb, southern Khartoum, he said that Sudan was rich in resources but the problem was “with the Sudanese themselves, who did not put the interest of the country first”.

He called to eliminate all forms of discrimination.

He said that the regime change should pave the way for a true democracy in which the people freely chose their representatives through the ballot boxes.

He further said that Sudanese should remove all those who obstruct national reconciliation and unity.

“Without an agreement, we will not be able to move forward,” he stressed.

On October 25, the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese army dissolved the transitional government led by the FFC political coalition that supported the December 2018 revolution.

The ouster of the pro-democracy groups took place after their demand to transfer the chairmanship of the Sovereign Council to civilians and to implement security reforms, as agreed in the constitutional declaration.

This is the first public participation of the deputy chairman after spending over two weeks in the United Arab Emirates where he met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.

The military-led Sovereign Council did not announce the visit or its reasons.

Hemetti who is also the General Commander of the Rapid Support Forces pledged to fight all forms of smuggling.

“The law will apply to any person involved in smuggling Sudan’s resources, even if this person is Hemetti himself as some say,” he said.

The SRF commander is accused of exporting gold and other minerals to the UAE market without paying taxes.

The military coup led to the suspension of family support programme funded by the international community, the rise of food and fuel prices following the suspension of international support and the IMF-monitored reforms.

To finance its expenses, the government now relies on indirect taxes paid by a large segment of the Sudanese who are already affected by the economic crisis.
