16 Misseriaya are killed in latest clashes with south Sudan army
January 5, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — 16 persons had been killed and 9 injured in renewed clashes between the Sudan People’s Liberation Army and the Misseriaya tribe, a tribal leader said.
Mukhtar Babu Nimer, the Emir of the Misseriaya tribe on Saturday was quoted as saying that 16 persons were killed and nine others wounded in the clashes, which took place on Friday at al-Garafe.
He said that the SPLA was gathering forces north of 1956 border between northern and southern Sudan, area that the Misseriaya used to move their cattle in search for green pasture.
The clashes happened only hours after a visit paid by a government delegation led by minister of defence Abdelrahim Hussein and minister for cabinet affairs Pagan Amum in order to mediate the dispute between the two sides.
The Misseriya, also known as Baggara, move according to a biannual seasonal migration. Every year, during the months of November and December, the Misseriya move their cattle from South Kordufan into Abyei area in search of green pasture for their cattle. They remain in Abyei area until the beginning of the rainy season around May to June.

I confidential disagree with such matter of Misseriaya taking action aganist SPLA unless otherwise they are not considering themselves as Sudanese, because we think Sudan is now in peace and the depolyment of SPLA around any part of Sudan is the way of maintaining proper security in the country,so why are you attempting to play such game,Goss should make sure that those Misseriaya people are well understood in what they did several times to SPLA troops in that region not to fight but to know their opinions about SPLA

The Misseriaya tribe has been armed and used by the defunct and the following regimes of Khartoum prior to independence 1956 in order to carry out evil plans of claiming more territories from non-arab tribes of southern Sudan, Darfur and Nuba-Mountains.
The Missseriaya ought to refrain from being used as fuel which is certainly consuming their youth who are going up in smoke of these dirty wars. Besides,in a serious violation of the CPA, why is Khartoum still arming the Misseriaya? And if not, why are they then still armed?
Misseriaya are just like any other sudanese citizens “tribe” abided by disarmament programme as stipulated in the CPA.
Lastly but not the least, SPLA is a sudanese national army with constitutional mandate and duties.
