February 17, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Unified Office of Sudanese Doctors condemned the use of black powder cartridge rifles by the security forces to disperse demonstrations, causing serious injuries among protesters.

To break up anti-coup protests Sudanese security forces use live ammunition, tear gas and coloured-water cannons. Over 80 people were killed because of the excessive use of violence.

The Unified Office on Thursday said they documented that a protester died from birdshot wounds in a demonstration at Cheroni square in Khartoum downtown on February 14.

In addition, several birdshot wounds were found in Omdurman and Khartoum North (Bahri) cities, added the coalition of medical groups.

The group said that the bullets were fired at close range.

Journalists and activists released photos showing security forces firing bullets at the anti-coup protesters.

However, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on February 12, expressed doubts about the presence of a third party involved in the killing of demonstrators.

On February 16, al-Burhan stressed that the army cannot turn their guns against the Sudanese people.

The coalition; which deploys doctors teams on the ground and treats wounded protesters in hospitals, recalled that the security forces killed four protesters and wounded hundreds by tear gas canisters as they fire them directly at protesters.

Further, it said that the security forces resorted to vehicle attacks to target protesters and to kill them.
