March 19, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese lawyers said they found some missing protesters detained in police custody as the number of people who forcefully disappeared have reached 10 people.

In a bid to end the anti-coup protests, security services in Sudan arrest activists and keep them in jail to prevent them from participating in the pro-democracy campaign that has begun following the coup of October 2021.

Last February, the security authorities released activists and political leaders arrested after the coup ahead of a visit of the UN independent expert on human rights Adama Dieng.

The Committee for Missing Persons and Emergency Lawyers, Saturday said that a search team they formed found some of the 10 missing people arrested in the jails of the police criminal investigation.

The lawyer team said they saw some of the missing people at the investigation office. Also, a police investigator told them that most of the detainees are under investigation pending trial, stressed the committee.

“We, the Emergency Lawyers, believe that what these (detained protesters) are exposed to is a violation of international treaties and conventions on human rights”.

The lawyers requested the immediate release of the detainees and warned against resorting to torture and cruel treatment to obtain forced confessions from the detainees.
