SRF groups call Sudan’s constitutional declaration parties to form new transnational govt
March 27, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF) called for talks between the civilian and military components over the formation of a transitional government as part of an initiative they proposed to end the political crisis in the country.
The SRF groups led by Hadi Idris on Sunday wrapped up a three-day retreat held in Ad Damazin, capital of the Blue Nile State to discuss the political stalemate in the country after the military coup besides internal organizational issues.
In an initiative published after the meeting, the front proposed a two-step dialogue process to end the ongoing crisis through a national agreement on principles conducive to a comprehensive political settlement involving all the political forces, except the dissolved NCP of the former regime.
The first stage includes a dialogue between the signatories to the Constitutional Document on the formation of a transitional government.
While the second step provides to hold an inclusive dialogue with the participation of all the political forces to reach an agreement on the system of governance, the constitution and elections.
The SRF, which is part of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC), welcomed any amendments to the constitutional declaration that contribute to a comprehensive political settlement, “provided that they do not prejudice the Juba Peace Agreement”.
They also stressed that the military component is a partner in the “success of the glorious December Revolution and a partner in the transitional period in accordance with the Constitutional Document”.
“The continuation of this partnership constitutes a basic guarantee for completing the transitional period and achieving the democratic transition,” they emphasized.
The initiative, to some extent, demonstrates the complexity of the political crisis as the FFC forces have no joint position on the way forward.
While the FFC official position is based on the rejection of dialogue and partnership with the military component, the SRF openly declares its adherence to this partnership. Also, the National Umma Party leader Fadlallah Burma on Sunday told the Alsudani newspaper they want a solution without the constitutional declaration of 2019.
The SRF initiative, on the other hand, joint the FFC groups on the need to fully implement the security arrangements and the security sector reforms and build a single national army, as provided in the Juba peace pact
Al-Burhan has refused to reform the military institutions and to hand over the economic companies, saying this reform can only be decided by an elected government.
The SRF stressed the need to create a suitable atmosphere for dialogue by lifting the state of emergency, releasing political detainees from the revolutionary forces and stopping violence against peaceful demonstrators.
The SRF also called for the implementation of the eastern Sudan peace deal which is part of the Juba peace agreement.
However, the Beja tribal entity allied with the military component immediately rejected the SRF demand.
The deal has been suspended last December to allow more consultation with the tribal group that the military encouraged to block Port Sudan terminals on the Red Sea last September before the coup of October 2021.
