Sweden to open embassy in Sudan soon
January 24, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — The visiting Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation, Gunilla Carlsson, announced that its country would soon open an embassy in the Sudanese capital to cope with political development in the country.
Sweden’s new embassy in Khartoum, also set to open during the first trimester of 2008, will enable Sweden to act more forcefully in peace and conflict management missions in Sudan. Stockholm today is the fifth largest humanitarian aid donor to Sudan.
Carlsson during a meeting on Thursday with the Sudanese Foreign minister Deng Alor has affirmed Sweden’s commitment to boost the development in Sudan through developmental cooperation programmes.
They also reviewed the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the efforts of the two partners to overcome the issues of difference through the mechanisms provided by the agreement.
Alor has commended the Swedish government commitment for its pledge in Oslo Donor’s Conference held in April 2005.
