UNITAMS calls to curb promoters of anti-Volker’s speech
April 18, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The UN political mission tasked with assisting to democratic transition in Sudan (UNITAMS) called on the government to hold accountable hate speech promoters, after a hate campaign against its chief.
“Demonizing public or private figures, and inciting against them is a conduct of hate crimes that societies and authorities have interest in holding its perpetrators to account, without delay,” said UNITAMS after calls by the editor in chief of the Sudan Armed Forces to jihad against the head of the mission.
The statement comes in response to provocative statements by Colonel Ibrahim al-Houri in a long opinion article he published in the Sudan Armed Forces newspaper on Sunday.
Al-Houri, this time did not content himself with calls to expel Volker Perthes but went to call for jihad against him after comparing him with the U.S. civilian ruler in Iraq Paul Bremer who is accused of dismantling Iraq after the fall of the Sadam Hussein regime.
The Sudanese army officer wrote this article of hate speech and calls for violence after statements by the Abdel Fattah al-Burhan Head of the military-led Sovereign Council slamming Perthes and threatening to expel him.
Also, the campaign against Perthes comes at a time the tripartite mechanism including the UNITAMS prepare to launch the dialogue process.
On Monday, the editor in chief of the Sudanese army’s official newspaper released a similar one-page article written by a Sudanese journalist Ali Mansour Hasaballa who spoke about the Iraqi model scenario to dismantle the Sudanese state.
Also, Hasaballah spoke about the role of the interior agents in Iraq and Sudan who support plans to break down Iraq and Sudan citing U.S. and U.K diplomats in Khartoum and many of the FFC figures.
The country’s military leaders did not react to the polemic, up to now.
