Dutch firms show interest in Sudanese vegetables
January 28, 2008 (KHARTOUM) — Netherlands expressed its firm willingness to increase imports of Sudanese vegetables particularly from green beans and okra
The Director of the Department of orchards and forests the Ministry of Agriculture, Badr Al-Din Sheikh, said that the Department of orchards received letters from Dutch companies praised the quality of Sudanese vegetables, and expressed willingness to import 40 tons per day of green beans and 40 tons of okra.
Sheikh further said that Dutch companies now prefer Sudanese okra and beans than the same products from other countries, the official SUNA reported.
He said that the Department of orchards will work to open other European markets to Sudanese vegetables, especially beans, okra, aubergine and Melon
He said that next year will witness a large expansion in the cultivation of vegetables from 200 to 2000 acres to cover the increasing demands of the Sudanese vegetables by Dutch companies and other.
