Southern pupils sit for Sudan Primary Leaving Certificate Examination

January 28, 2008 (JUBA) — South Sudan primary leaving certificate examinations for 2008 kicks off today in the three states of Central Equatoria, Jonglei and Eastern Equatoria, and the starts off bell was rang by Mr. Edward Legge, Director General of Central Equatoria state ministry of Education Science and Technology from Buluk Model basic school at 9.00 am.
Mr. Legge, urge the candidates to take the examinations with courage and fully determination and the he expect the best result from them. With confidence, Mr. Legge says despite of numerous problems encountered by states ministries of Education, they are expecting better performance than last year because syllabus has been thoroughly covered and more importantly basic school teachers have not gone on strike like their counter part in secondary schools.
Director General Legge appeals to parents to show love and encouragement to their children especially those sitting examinations when at home or returning from school need parental love as part of impacting discipline a child may in turn carry to schools.
Our children are the future leaders of tomorrow so it is our works as teachers together with parents to play important role of imparting discipline whose first lesion begins from home then to school, emphasized director General Legge.
Responding to the alleged shortage of English and Arabic teachers in basic education, Director General Edward Legge said no complain so far has been filed to state ministry of Education, Science and Technology by the concern headmasters. Nevertheless, he stated that Central Equatoria state ministry of education is restricted in recruiting new teachers because of financial constrains compounded with inadequate transfer and early remittance by Goss ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, explain director general.
Meanwhile the Director of Examinations Council of Central Equatoria state, Mr. Wani Lado Lobuju, said Central Equatoria State has the highest total of 2,837 pupils with eleven sitting centers for 47 schools comprising of 1,623 male and 1,214 female. The bordering state of Jonglei has two centers with a total of 618 pupils including 462 male and 156 female whereas Eastern Equatoria has only two centers with a total of 119 pupils including 92 male and 27 female, Director of Examinations Council of Central Equatoria state, has said.
Mr. Lobuju explain that the pupil are sitting examination under the old syllabus because the new syllabus only covered from primary one to four, adding that a total of 175 invigilators plus 65 support staffs are supervising this year examination.
The Director of Examinations Council further say this year examination has been approved by Baktearoda national center for Curriculum development and printed in Khartoum at funding of sitting pupils from the three states contributions, Jonglei 29,000 Sudanese pounds while Eastern Equatoria pledged to contribute 3,000 Sudanese pounds and the host Central Equatoria agreed to top up any differences that might occurred.
The eight day examination that kicks off today timetable compelled pupils to sit for one paper per day and the subjects are; English Language, Christian/Al Quoran Religion, Nutrition and Health, We and the Contemporary World, Classical/Special Arabic Language, El Fiqua Wal Ageida, Science in Our Life and the last subjects will be Mathematic respectively.

Thank you Mr Legge and Lado i appreciate your encouragment of education in Southern sudan,my advice to illiterate parents who knows nothing about the important of education in current World especially those who attempt to stop thir girls from going to school must be charge to high penalty,its aganise human rights.this is another way of taking the country back and for sure the nation will drop to the bottom of the World,imagine if there is lack of doctors,teachers,lawyers and etc how should this country be compared to a country with high standard.Mr Goss open your eyes that education is the way to go,i need your support to see that all materials and equipments plus facilities for education are promoted to high level.EQUAOTRIA WOYE,SOUTHERN SUDAN WOYE,

Lack of English teachers is seems to be one of the main challenges of education in Southern Sudan.My personal appeal to the government and people of Southern Sudan is that it is wise to ask what you are lacking from your neigbhour than just to keep on lamenting.We should not allow the emotional pride to block the future of our children.
