April 25, 2022 (JUBA) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir has vowed to protect businesses of investors from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The South Sudanese leader made the remarks upon his return to the country from the Gulf nation on Sunday.

Addressing reporters in the capital, Juba, the Presidential Affairs minister, Barnaba Marial Benjamin said the South Sudanese leader met his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan in Doha.

“The President’s visit to the United Arab Emirates was successful. He met and held talks with the leaders from UAE, including business leaders whom he had encouraged to come here and invest in different areas. This is a great demonstration the president is not sleeping but working hard to attract investors to come into the country so that they help in the economic recovery and growth,” said Marial.

He added, “Peace has come and it is now time to encourage investors from all over the world, and more especially our brothers from the Middle East and Arab world”.

The minister, who accompanied Kiir for the trip to UAE, disclosed that investors expressed willingness to come and invest in South Sudan.

“The encouragement of investment, especially from the United Arab Emirates and surrounding Middle East countries. There was a lot of interest at Expo 2020 show in which over 160 participated and South Sudan attracted more interest other any other country,” he stated.

Marial said Kiir and his UAE counterpart further discussed a number of issues related to bilateral relations between the two countries.

He said the South Sudanese leader was highly received by his UAE counterpart who vowed to mobilize investment opportunities and support for South Sudan in development, peace and security areas.

“The peace is being implemented and there will be stability. This country will now embark on development,” stressed the minister.

In February 2020, Kiir and his delegation travelled to Dubai and held several bilateral and business talks while there, attending the Dubai 2020 Expo, among other events.
