President Al-Bashir briefs gov’t on Omani visit

KHARTOUM, Feb 16, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Beshir briefed the Council of Ministers, yesterday on the outcome of his recent visit to the Sultanate of Oman, in response to an invitation by the Sultan of Oman, Qabus Bin-Sa’id, towards consolidation of the bilateral relations.

Al-Bashir said that he acquainted Sultan Qabus on the peace process in Sudan and the situation in Darfur states. He expressed Sudan thanks to Sultan Qabus and the Sultanate of Oman for their contribution to the funding to the project of Merowe Dam.

In a press statement, the foreign minister, Mustafa Osman Ismail, who accompanied President Al-Bashir during the visit, said at the cabinet’s sitting that the Sudanese and Omani parties agreed on the exchange of experiences and cadres in the fields of judiciary and universities, as well as the coordination in the agricultural domain.

He added that the two countries agreed on the establishment of a joint ministerial committee, to be co-chaired by the Sudanese and Omani ministers of agriculture.
