Uganda rebel attack in Sudan displaces hundreds
February 5, 2008 (JUBA) — More than 300 people have been displaced by an attack near Sudan’s border with Uganda in which dozens were abducted, the top U.N. official in southern Sudan said Tuesday.
David Gressly told journalists 40 people were kidnapped in the Jan. 30 attack in Kajo Keji in Central Equatoria State, less than 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the border.
Four members of south Sudan security forces were also killed in the attack, with reinforcements dispatched to the isolated region, southern officials said.
“There is an ongoing looting in the area,” Gressly said, adding that some of those abducted had been released but that fear had kept those displaced people from going home.
Local government officials suspect Uganda’s Lord’s Resistance Army rebels were behind the attack, with the state parliament speaker on Monday calling for the suspension of Sudan-hosted Ugandan peace talks over the attack.
The attack happened on the same day the Ugandan government and LRA rebels agreed to extend a ceasefire for one month, paving the way for the resumption of stalled peace talks in the southern capital Juba.
Central Equatoria parliament speaker Zamba Duku said the attackers were believed to be LRA because there are no other military groups in the area.
The leader of the LRA delegation to the peace talks, David Matsanga, last week said the rebels were not responsible as they were 500 kilometres (310 miles) away from the area that was attacked.
“We are not sure that the attack was by the LRA,” Gressly said.
Asked if the U.N. had any leads as to what could be unfolding, Gressly said: “Frankly, we don’t understand what’s happening.”

Mr Zamba Duku i beleive that you have to work hand in hands to find the reality dont sit far and waiting for liars to bring the reality to you.its shocking news as we are the losers imagine our brothers were killing themselves Bor and Murle,ours brothers were killed in Keji Keji by LRA also In Kenya we lost our family yet Joseph Konye or other millitas are disturbing us,killing us in SS,what is the point of being as a leader in SS if you cant check the truth in you Home SS,why dont you ask the people who were released to tell the truth whether those people are from LRA or differ kind,please Mr Duku make sure that you and Goss are there to maintain a good nation if LRA need exercise with SPLA then its simple as morning tea if SPLA can survive from NCP atom bomb then what is hard about LRA,please i want to remind you that our land is ours there is no need to have out side challenges as LRA is doing,otherwise if that was LRA its usuless to have peace in JUBA concerning his issues its better to deploye your needles around his tails to see that Equatorian are enjoying the fruits of peace in their home,we dont need IDP we have to live free and confortable its ours place as now we need help from WFP or UN to provide food and accomanditions to those people while they were having good lives in their areas,in my personal view i would like clear and specfic explaination about this whether LRA is acting againse SS,because i cant agree to David Matsanga as rebels has no permanant place to live or same rebels are aiming to fight Equatorian,i cant judge but we need your help to bring the truth.Self determination is the way Mr Clement Wani please **???

I’m confused with some of our leaders of GOSS, with their statement saying “these are some bandits or gangs” denying LRA’s brutality action of terror to the people of kajo-Kaji- citizen of Southern Sudan.
Please, even the story of this young boy the survivor (Lado Moses Gonda)undergoing treatment in Juba, could not pity you with any of the characteristics of LRA’s brutality on people?
I think this leader who spoke the above statement deserve an appologies for the people of Kajo-Kaji if it was a slip of tougue. Otherwise, that statement will go into the record and awareness that’s media, and the person will be known.
Please, I need a respond on these.
