ASMARA, Feb 16, 2004 — The meeting of the Leadership Council of the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA) concluded its deliberations in Asmara yesterday, 15 February 2004, asserting that the Sudanese problem can only be resolved through the participation of all political forces in the country.
The meeting adopted significant resolutions that include the following:
– Denunciation of the Khartoum regime’s acts of repression in Darfour province;
– Call for an end to Khartoum’s military operations in the province and hold talks with the Sudanese Liberation Movement (Darfour) which the latter proposed earlier; and
– Call on the international community to take action towards an end to the current atrocities in Darfour and extend urgent relief aid to the affected population.
Moreover, the meeting of the NDA Leadership Council welcomed the decision by the Sudanese Liberation Movement (Darfour) to join the Alliance. It further welcomed the delegation from the Umma Party that presented a report at the meeting.
The meeting once again praised the people and Government of Eritrea for their continued efforts to promote lasting peace in the Sudan.
