Two killed during anti-coup protests in Khartoum
May 28, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese security forces once again killed two protesters on Saturday, in the latest wave of violence against the anti protests in a Khartoum state.
The Resistance Committee in the Al-Kalakla suburb, south of Khartoum, organised a protest in their neighbourhood rejecting the military rule.
The demonstration was part of local activities the committees carry out separately to maintain pressure on the security forces and the ruling junta.
The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) said that a protester was killed by a live bullet in the chest fired by the Security forces.
The second protester died “as a result of suffocation when the police fired tear gas to disperse the demonstration,” further said the medical group.
The killing of two protesters on Saturday brings the total number of protesters killed since the coup to 98.
Sudanese authorities pledged several times to end the use of violence against the protesters and to lift the state of emergency.
UNITAMS Head Volker Perthes condemned the excessive use of violence and called to remove the state of emergency.
“I am appalled by the violent death of two young protesters in Khartoum yesterday. One again: it is time for the violence to stop, time to end the state of emergency, time for a peaceful way out of the current crisis in Sudan,” he said.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights appointed an independent expert to monitor, monitor, advise, and publicly report on matters related to human rights violations in Sudan.
However, he rarely reacts to the violations of human rights in the East African country.
