Ex-South African spy chief appointed envoy to South Sudan
June 12, 2022 (PRETORIA) – South Africa’s former head of the State Security Agency’s (SSA) domestic intelligence service, Mahlodi Sam Muofhe, has been appointed as the country’s new ambassador to South Sudan.
Muofhe, a lawyer, said he looks forward to the new chapter in his life.
“Hopefully I can do something to ensure good relations between our country and South Sudan,” he told News24.
Muofhe, known for his tough stance against corruption, vowed to examine where the two nations could cooperate on matters of mutual interests.
The lawyer, News24 reported, previously testified before the Zondo Commission on corruption and wrongdoing at the state security institution.
Prior to joining SSA, Muofhe served as chief governance officer of the Special Investigating Unit, in addition to several government advisory roles.
