South Sudan deploys troops on Uganda border to stem LRA attacks

February 14, 2008 (JUBA) — South Sudan’s former rebels have sent troop reinforcements to a remote area on the border with Uganda where attacks initially blamed on Uganda’s Lord’s Resistance Army have broken out.

“The mobile brigade is there,” Sudan’s People Liberation Army chief of staff Major General Hoth Mai said in an interview. “They have been there the last two days. We are waiting for feedback.”

Mai could not say how many troops from the 6,000-strong brigade had been dispatched to the border area.

The U.N. said an attack in January displaced about 300 people. Another attack on Monday and Tuesday left at least three people dead, an independent researcher said.

On Feb. 8, a senior Sudanese military officer said Ugandan rebels from the LRA killed dozens of people during a different attack.

The Sudanese officer suspected that LRA remnants – not the main group – were responsible.

“We have found out that a lot of indigenous people here were recruited into the LRA during the civil war. They are the ones doing this,” said Mai.

Sudan fought a bitter 21-year civil war between northern and southern forces in which more than 1.5 million people died until a peace agreement was signed in January, 2005.

During the war, Khartoum had a close relationship with the LRA that battled the government in northern Uganda for two decades and became notorious for its brutal practices.

Ugandan peace talks hosted by the southern Sudanese government in Juba, resumed on Thursday.

“We are here now,” chief LRA delegate David Matsanga said. “The talks are on course.”

Many LRA fighters have found refuge in the remote forests of southern Sudan.

Saying that LRA forces were about 500 kilometers away from the scene of the attacks, he denied their involvement and instead blamed the Ugandan military.

Too later while we lost families in Uganda border by LRA,Goss was sleeping until UN is now taking serious action about the displaced of those 300 people, why do Goss relayed on the idea of fool David Matsang,LRA should have been discipline in yrs ago not until we lose our families, what is the point of sending troops while its already past tense.Mr Mai the indigenous people were recruited into the LRA during the civil war because LRA has no differ to his sadist friend beshir as he collect the Black Sudanese to kill themselves with SPLA while supervise by white Arabs like nomads with their cattles.this encouragment of LRA and nomads in Abeyi by coward beshir need specially eyes who can see deep into his dreams before he can intent to make it obvious.

OPEN EYES AND STRONG AMBITION FOR OUR NATION SS,the connection btn Arabs nor Eyptain must be abolish or abolition for tomorrow if not then our nation has no hope and dreams for bright future

Your excellence the President of GoSS, I still have a trouble question for your government.

Why now, you decided to send in your armies in the attacked area after doubting and leaving what your top official called them, “other bandits or gangs” not LRA’s to escape?

Does it mean that, your government doesn’t want to know those other bandits or gangs that attack Nyepo Panyam that left 3 of your armies dead.

    I demand a response please.
