EPRP(d) is Saddened by the Continuing Kenyan-on-Kenyan Violence

Kenya is a sister African nation that borders Ethiopia to the south. The Kenyan Government and people have been on the side of Ethiopians through thick and thin times.

Ethiopians will always cherish the good deeds of the Kenyan people for hosting Ethiopian political refugees and sheltering them from the repression of successive Ethiopian dictatorialregimes, including the current TPLF/EPRDF.

EPRP (d) is profoundly saddened by the turmoil and the continued killings in Kenya following the December elections there. It is reported that up to a thousand Kenyans had died, hundreds of thousands internally exiled and dislocated, and substantial amount of property destroyed. What makes our sorrow so poignant is the fact that the turmoil in Kenya has displayed overtones of inter-ethnic violence. Africa has already suffered enough from the consequences of ethnic conflagrations.

The most horrible of them all, the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 in which over 1 million lost their lives, is only a recent memory. Unfortunately, the hard lessons that need to be learned byAfrican elites have not been yet learned. We still witness inter-ethnic conflicts and heavyburden and stressful living conditions on Africans in such places as Darfur, the Niger Delta andthe Great Lakes region.

However, EPRP(d) is encouraged by the peace making efforts of eminent Africans forAfrican problems. The efforts of one of these Africans, that of former UN Secretary General, Kofi Anan, appears to be on a promising track to bring peace to Kenya.

EPRP(d) wishes Mr.Kofi Anan and the Kenyan people all the success. No doubt, multi-party democracy based onKenyan nationalism and respect for the vote of the people are two of the important ingredientsfor the solution of the current ethnic conflict in Kenya. EPRP(d) calls upon the leaders of thetwo contending parties to soberly calculate the cost of the continued human tragedies and material devastations and to try their level best to avert all future catastrophes.

EPRP (d) stands in solidarity with all Kenyan people!!!850 Sligo Avenue Suite # 8P.O.Box 8141P.O.Box 88675Siver Spring , MD 20910Silver Spring, MD 20910Los Angeles, CA 90009Phone: 202-578-4466 Fax: 202-449-8363 Email Address: E Mail To EPRP@ AOL.Com
