Fire breaks out again in Juba

February 23, 2008 (JUBA) — Three houses were this morning at 9.05 am burnt to ashes at Juba commercial and residential area two days after thirteen houses were burnt in the same area, leaving more than twenty five families without anything to eat, dress or sleep on.
This time round, the fire broke out from electric circuit in one of house and nothing was salvage form the three houses.
This area in Juba is one of the most congested areas in Juba where most internally displaced persons have taken refugee during the civil war yet the Juba Town Council authorities failed to enfrce laws that protect residential areas from fire outbreak.
The Fire fighter Bridgade managed to arrive but it took them fifteen minutes fitting their implements as most of fire fighters are new recruits.

This should be the only logical execuse acceptable to us individuals who have been to Juba Town.
From Rajaf Mountain to Juba International Airport is mere 12.36 Miles. Convince me Mr. Firefighter, that ‘Juba- Hay Malakal where you are stationed.’ A two miles away from the fire-epy-center) is far enough for your dumb-founded negligence? We can be too far from home but, not far enough to realise your insane, but stupid Procrestinations Mr. Firefighter!! You can procrestiante, but remember, there are those who cherish what you think is your spoils. Abroad we love not the property but the inhabitants. Not the contents but, the value!!Had you just responded responsibly to the fire inccident, none of these properties woould have been lost. So please act like ones when the Country entrusted you..

What are these cases of fire out break! what is Goss doing to cease these cases from happening? does it mean there is no alert of such kind to people from the Goverment or does it mean that people are just living in Juba so any time they can die from fire, crimes, and all other uncertanities? Does it also mean that Goss is paying FireFighters without doing their jobs a term known as “corruption” or negligence of work or does it mean that people under this authority are not doing their work at all?, because it had happened several times in Juba where houses are burnt to ashes and not a single firefighter was announced to have managed to do something or failed at all. It is very embrassing for the government.
Otherwise goss should do something to shift powers of this Kind to people who can do at least something to save ignorant population of juba.
Survey land Goss or GoCE if you want people to stay in peace of mind and never fear again of fire breaking here or there.

RETHINKING FIRE POLICIES IN SOUTHERN SUDAN
Fire the good servant and the bad master is the most natural catastrophic disaster whose effects cannot be reverse. The recent incident of fire damages in Juba and the past are alarming to raise the concerns of making new policies decelerate the threat of fire by our authorities. The cycle of fire occurrence roars on with higher stakes, greater risks, and the grim certainty that happen again and again.
The enormity and complexity of creating a platform that better placed our citizens is comparatively advantageous than withstanding the damages cause by fire at the long run. Just by the fact that southern Sudan is in a dream to realize an exponential development in all its states; it is hence and therefore very crucial and fundamental to adopt new policies that will suppress frequence occurrence of fire in our cities.
So what are the likely proposals that will match our immediate needs to make the threats of fire a long ago echo? Well, in my view, the proposals should range from educative, enforcement to preventive strategies. There is a dare need to create longtime policies of fire suppression — in which the government should be the front runner in keeping fires from their normal cycle. Nobody knows how long the fire will burn but we know that at least 200 homes in a day could be in alarming threats depending on how the fire will proceeds.
The government should equip it offices with fire extinguishers at strategic spots that have potential fire threats. These offices should also be equip with under ground dug drawers (earthen drawers) that will help protect our documents from being destroyed by the fire. It is very central to established fire statistic and data centers, which will keep the tracks of fire occurrence and educate our public on the dangers of fire. These centers will also help in establishing new rules, including stipulations that homeowners provide 100 feet of defensible space around their homes as a legal distance between one building to the next to prevent wild spread of fire in our towns. At times, there are some cases where individual whose ajendas are aimed at causing destructions, in such cases, accelerates fire, these individual should be brought to justice to reduce the intentional chain of negligence.
These ideas are not that we want to create goals and policies that will slow growth, that’s not the intent, they are to make sure that our people are safe during a wild land fire because after disaster, people are not in any mood to change further, they already had their lives
turned upside down, they want to get back to they way it was yesterday — turns out to be a very bad time to have vision. Therefore, it is worth trying now rather than later because “prevention is better than cure”
