July 26, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW) Tuesday denied joining a new alliance led by the Sudanese Communist Party, due to the lack of consensus among the political forces on it.

On July 24, the Communist Party announced the embellishment of the Forces for Radical Change (FRC) but did not announce all the forces that signed it.

However, SCP Spokesman Fathi Fadl stated that the SLM-AW joined the new alliance and described it as a “great addition to the alliance”. Also, he added that the holdout group took its decision immediately after the press conference announcing the new platform.

However, the holdout group issued a statement saying that it had agreed to join a political charter dubbed the Radical Change Forces for Peace, Unity and Justice (RCFPUJ).

“It was agreed that it would not be announced until the agreement of all the forces of the revolution believing in radical and comprehensive change and after the removal of the coup d’état,” reads the statement.

The statement added that such an agreement should be inclusive of the political parties, armed movements, IDPs, and civil society groups to serve the general interest and avoid failed bilateral agreements.

Last May, the SCP political secretary travelled to Juba and Kauda of South Kordofan to meet with al-Nur and the SPLM-N leader Abdel Aziz al-Hilu to discuss the establishment of a political alliance.

The SCP counted much on the two non-signatory groups to consolidate its position rejecting any negotiation with the military component.

The SPLM-N is part of a peace process brokered by the South Sudanese government. While the SLM-AW calls for a national conference on the Sudanese problem, not the Darfur conflict.

The statement said the group is in touch with several political and civil groups and resistance committees to form “the largest front to resist the coup through all peaceful means”.
