Coup leaders, armed groups are responsible for attack on FFC rally: Sudanese SCP
July 27, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese Communist Party (SCP) Wednesday accused the military coup leaders and their allied armed groups of being behind the attack on the rally of the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) in Khartoum to denounce tribal violence in the country.
According to the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, 25 people were injured in an attack on the FFC-organised march by unidentified elements using tear gas, knives and batons.
The Resistance Committee of the Aldyiom Alsharquiya suburb had rejected the demonstration. However, they denied carrying out this attack, which targeted the FFC leaders. While the former ruling coalition accused the security service of masterminding the attack.
In a statement on Wednesday, the SCP condemned the “heinous attack” on the FFC rally for peaceful co-existence and underscored the peaceful character of the December 2019 revolution.
“We add our voiced to all patriotic voices that have condemned the violence against the march, which is contrary to freedom of expression and change,” stated the SCP.
“The practice and advocacy of violence is a continuous attempt by the anti-revolutionary coalition, including the security committee and some armed groups signatory of the Juba peace agreement, remnants of the ousted regime and some political forces seeking to participate in power with the intention of striking the December revolution,” further said the statement.
Resistance Committees in Khartoum state condemned the attack on the rally considering it a violation of freedom of assembly and expression of opinion, which is part of the political gains of the revolution.
Some activists blamed the Resistance Committee in Aldyiom Alsharquiya for issuing a statement that created the right atmosphere for the attack.
The Technical Committee of the Security and Defense Council, for its part, condemned the “unfortunate events” that took place in Khartoum on Saturday.
At its regular meeting on Wednesday, chaired by the Head of the Transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the committee condemned “violence in all its forms, and affirmed the right of all to the peaceful and disciplined expression of opinion exercised within the framework of the law“.
