Ethiopia: Tearing down of a nation under the guise of fight against poverty

By Aklilu Demissie

March 1, 2008 — Where a nation’s fabric is being torn down is nowhere stark naked than Ethiopia. Tribal hoodlums have risen to becoming the assuring ghastly monsters of a nation’s demise on its feet. The audacity or could be the assumption on the regime’s side that the entire world could be fooled or be kept at bay as long as a mechanism of thereat and extortion is played against the very same people that are in Ethiopia to stall the staggering plight of a human being for which the regime has unleashed on the nation. It is also astounding for the foreign media to have fallen victim to the suppression in reporting of horrendous atrocities although lately much courage is being demonstrated. The regime has taken aid workers, organizations and the foreign media as hostages threatening them that there is no way they would help victims of Zenawi’s atrocities as long as they told the heart wrenching unimaginable stories of brutality that are a day today agonies from every corner of the land , Ogaden and Somalia.

A regime that trusts its lies and innuendos always barks of assurances of highest authority of the absence of barbaric rights violation through its thugs while right there they are commanding and pulling the trigger of mayhem on citizens. The futile attempt at muzzling both the national and foreign media and jamming of international broadcasts serves no purpose than hastening the demise of devilish megalomaniacs. If there is a regime that is bogged down as survival kit to its stinking, rotting life line is non other than Zenawi’s, which still clings and reads from tested, defunct and long dead communist era sophistication.

The often deafening trumpet of enormous victories against poverty in the land of appalling human rights violation is nothing more than a propaganda ploy to appease the nervous break down of the regime which is reeling intoxicated from the spilled blood of citizens. A regime is dead the day it began wanton decimation of its own citizens. For all the fallacies boasted about, the regime still denigrates students and teachers of poor quality as if the nation doesn’t know the deliberate and calculated set agenda of destroying any viable achievement in health and education. For the ruling elite tribalists, their educational back ground and where they stand is a broad day light mystery.

It has become a land where a healthy, enlightened and financially independent citizen is a threat to the regime’s existence.

In true sense of the term, the life of a citizen is being crafted just to revolve in vicious cycle of poverty and mere existence to be always tied to the wishes of the regime. Effective control in the business and investment arena tied with popularizing poverty and unchecked population explosion are in the dominion of the strategy in stifling human rights and freedom by a handful ethnic tribalists contrary to the make believe drum beating of inconceivable scores against poverty .

The regime spends almost all of its time and energy on destructive, divisive agendas and strategies and its survival through its security and war machine, thanks to donor money. The regime’s media frenzy of development and the sweet fight against poverty could only be their millions they have looted and stand on. Even for the average person survival in the land has become more of an illusion let alone basking and beaming in Zenawi’s non existent agricultural or industrial revolution.

A regime characteristically bent on incarcerating and killing its citizens could not by the furthest stretch of imagination be caring for the betterment of Ethiopia. A regime whose harvest is blood of its citizens in every corner of the land is enemy number one that should be fought in unison. It should not be forgotten that niceties had never taken down or would take down thugs.
