Ethiopia’s political parties agree over media air time for election

March 1, 2008 (ADDIS ABABA) — some 28 political parties today come together at the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, and agreed over media air time scheduled for their election campaign.
According to Ethiopian broadcast director Desta Tesfaye, each political party will have 30 minute election campaign time access in the national radio station and a10 minute access at the state run TV, while the frequency will vary with the range of contestants they have registered.
The aim of the air allocation is to let every party introduce their plans and stands to people and to their supporters.
No political party has yet complained over the air time scheduled today.
‘The air time scheduled is fair, democratic and much better compared to last year’s” some two opposition party members told Sudan tribune.
The specific air time, parties demanded to air their campaign, which was a major controversy was solved by drawing lots.
