SPLM-N branch propose holding emergency meeting over internal divisions
َAugust 11, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – SPLM-N Agar in North Darfur proposed to hold an extraordinary conference to end the rift within the group and avoid a spilt following the growing division over its representation in the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC)
After the coup of October 2021, SPLM-N deputy leader Yasir Arman had been arrested while Malik Agar remained in the military-led Sovereign Council. At the time, Agar said that a rejection of the coup means a return to war.
Recently, the disagreement spread to the movement’s branches inside and outside Sudan when Agar criticised the participation of his deputy and a number of other cadres in the FFC meetings and activities.
His remarks triggered a wave of statements supporting the anti-coup members and reiterating adhesion to the pro-democracy coalition.
Agar went further as he sent, on August 9, a letter seen by Sudan Tribune to the FFC bureau asking them to not consider any representatives from the SPLM-N before referring to him personally.
In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Thursday, the office of the SPLM-N in North Darfur called to hold an “extraordinary conference in order to settle the worsening situation in the organization”.
The statement pointed out the ongoing difficult challenges the country is facing saying the Movement should end these disputes to deal with the major problems Sudan is experiencing.
SPLM-N branches in South Kordofan and the commander of the SPLA-N infantry in the Blue Nile this week issued statements supporting Agar saying priority should be given to peace.
While the branches of Khartoum, Gezira, North Kordofan, River Nile and Central Darfur stood against him.
The SPLM-N in West Kordofan, and the Blue Nile region till now have not declared their positions but Agar is expected to win the support of his home area.
Recently, Federal Governor Minister Buthaina Dinar who is from South Kordofan resigned from her position in the backdrop of the increasing difference between the two factions.
The SPLM-N officials say they do not want the group spilt in the fashion of Darfur groups but prefer to hold a conference where all the parties can express their positions before to decide the political line of the movement.
